At the Plant Compound Theater during the GreenTech event in Amsterdam, Biense Visser, Chairman of F1 SeedTech, delivered a pivotal presentation. Visser revealed the company’s vision for cannabis cultivation, underscoring the game-changing capabilities of our Cannabis F1 hybrid seeds.
“Within 5 to 8 years the preferred cannabis starting material will be F1 hybrid seeds”
Visser began by highlighting the agri-economic advantages of F1 hybrid seeds, drawing parallels with the evolution of corn and tomato crops. “Within 5 to 8 years the preferred cannabis starting material will be F1 hybrid seeds, just like the majority of the vegetables and row crops,” Visser stated. He underscored the potential for higher yields, reduced labor costs, and shorter cycle times, all leading to a better gross margin by 15% and significant EBITDA growth.
F1 SeedTech is at the forefront of bringing the proven benefits of F1 hybrid vegetable seeds to the cannabis industry. Visser detailed the company’s collaborations, including a successful Proof of Concept with F1 SeedTech and Grodan, validated by Wageningen University in the Netherlands. F1 SeedTech is also an active member of ‘Cultivation for Compounds’, a MultiTech platform for sustainable and commercial synergies.
Visser also highlighted the growing recognition of F1 hybrids over clones, citing the successful launch of the home growers market by Royal Queen Seeds in early 2023. He noted the recurring sales and attractive pricing as evidence of the product’s quality and market acceptance.
In his closing remarks, Visser urged cannabis companies to make the shift from clones to F1 hybrid seeds, emphasizing the potential for improved cash flow and investment in innovation. He painted a rosy market outlook, predicting a $92B market in 5 years, and encouraged companies to become early innovators in this space.
“Start shifting cannabis cultivation, step by step, from clones to F1 hybrid seeds,” Visser urged, encapsulating the essence of his presentation and F1 SeedTech’s mission.
